SACRAMENTO –Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego) released the following statement today following Governor Gavin Newsom’s veto of Senate Bill 619, a measure that would cut years off the time it takes for transmission projects to be approved and permitted – a reform critical for the California economy and the state’s rapid advance towards 100% clean energy.




SACRAMENTO – Senate Bill 751, Senator Steve Padilla’s (D-San Diego) legislation closing predatory loopholes in franchise agreements between municipalities and waste haulers was passed today by the California Legislature.




SACRAMENTO – Today, in a move to modernize California’s aging energy infrastructure, the Senate passed Senate Bill 619, Senator Steve Padilla’s (D-San Diego) legislation to accelerate California’s efforts to approve energy transmission projects.




SACRAMENTO – Last week, the California Assembly passed Senate Bill 583, authored by Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego) and co-authored by Coachella Valley Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella), with bipartisan support. The bill creates the Salton Sea Conservancy to unify the state’s efforts to protect residents’ health, foster ecological recovery in the area, and to empower local stakeholders in that process.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego) joined by San Ysidro Health President and CEO, Kevin Mattson, San Ysidro Health Board Chair, Macario Guitierrez, and San Ysidro Health leadership celebrated $2 million secured in the 2023/2024 state budget for the non-profit to establish a much needed refrigerated food distribution center at Camp Lockett in Campo serving rural San Diego County. Prior to the celebration, the attendees toured a clinic in Chula Vista and discussed the challenges organizations face as they address food insecurity issues in historically underserved communities in San Diego County.




SACRAMENTO – Last week, Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego) held a community roundtable discussion to discuss the negative health impacts the Salton Sea has had on families and children living in the region. The discussion included members of the community from local food banks, school districts, advocacy groups, as well as concerned parents.




SACRAMENTO – Yesterday, Senator Steve Padilla’s (D-San Diego) first piece of legislation to become law, which adds transparency in the public contracts process and removes barriers between government agencies and the public, was signed by Governor Newsom.
