Senator Padilla’s Statement on the Passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson
SACRAMENTO – Today, State Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego) issued the following statement on the passing of civil rights champion Reverend Jesse Jackson:
“Reverend Jesse Jackson was one of the preeminent voices of modern American political discourse and a champion of civil rights. His powerful voice and his wisdom have left an indelible mark on our history, and we are a stronger nation thanks to his life’s work. I had the privilege to meet Reverend Jackson and hear him speak several times many years ago – his message of equality and uplifting one another is even more powerful and relevant today than it was then.
America grieves the loss of this giant; a hero to many, but an example to all. May his legacy lead us all towards a more united America and a brighter future for all.”
