Senator Padilla’s Statement Ahead of SHARP Worker Union Vote
SACRAMENTO –Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego) released the following statement today ahead of Sharp Chula Vista Hospital employees holding a vote to decide to form a union:
“Unions are the very structure that built America’s middle class. Their achievements and successes advance the quality of life of workers across this nation. Everyone deserves representation in their workplace — a voice that can speak out for better wages or working conditions.
This April 24th, Sharp Chula Vista employees will vote whether or not to unionize. It is your right to make this decision, which is why the reports of Sharp intimidating and discouraging employees from voting to unionize all the more disturbing. This election is for you and your colleagues alone to determine the kind of workplace you want for yourselves.
California will always defend your legal right to make that decision for yourself, free of harassment from your employer. I encourage you to make your voice heard in this upcoming election as you vote to unionize.”
