Senator Padilla’s Statement on 2024 Election Results

SACRAMENTO –Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego) released the following statement today regarding the 2024 election results:

“Once again, California finds itself a bulwark against an antiquated and dangerous agenda that works only for the interests of a few. Today, we are reminded the march toward progress is often as difficult as it is inspiring.

“Today, we again commit ourselves to modeling and championing a more open, equitable, and just society — to building an economy with opportunities for everyone, not just a privileged few.

“When those who swear an oath to uphold these American ideals instead try to strip away rights, we will protect them. When they demonize communities, we will embrace them. When they try to take us backwards, we will only look forward. The promise of America's tomorrow lives on proudly in California.”

Steve Padilla represents the 18th Senate District, which includes the communities of Chula Vista, the Coachella Valley, Imperial Beach, the Imperial Valley, National City, and San Diego. Prior to his election to the Senate in 2022, Senator Padilla was the first person of color ever elected to city office in Chula Vista, the first Latino Mayor, and the first openly LGBT person to serve or be elected to city office.
