SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, announced today that Gov. Jerry Brown has signed his legislation to ensure that Californians can continue to mark boxes on their state tax returns to contribute money to cancer research.

SB 440 extends a tax checkoff for cancer research from 2017 through 2024.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, announced today that Gov. Jerry Brown has signed his legislation that protects consumers who sign up for automatic renewal purchases by requiring disclosure of the cost and greater ease in canceling the arrangements.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, has asked Gov. Jerry Brown to lift the suspension of driver’s licenses for 200,000 Californians who are struggling to pay traffic ticket fines and fees.

In a letter sent to Brown this week, Hertzberg said it is common sense to extend a change in law that took place on June 27 to drivers who already have had their licenses suspended, instead of applying only to Californians after that date.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, introduced legislation this week as part of a two-track effort to figure out why the bail bond insurance market, unlike other forms of insurance, doesn’t link the cost of insurance with the risk assumed by the insurer. In addition to SB 779, Hertzberg announced that the Senate Committee on Insurance, Banking and Financial Institutions plans to conduct an informational hearing on the issue later this year.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, introduced legislation today to roll back driver’s license suspensions for Californians who have been unable to pay their traffic fines and fees.

SB 237 would apply to about 200,000 Californians who did not benefit from Traffic Amnesty Program that ended this spring and who had their licenses suspended before Gov. Jerry Brown changed the law to prevent the practice in a trailer bill attached to the 2017-18 state budget.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, clarifying the definition of stormwater so that projects designed to capture and clean stormwater can be more easily financed and built by local agencies today passed the Assembly.

SB 231 has already been approved by the Senate and now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown for his consideration. The Assembly passed the bill on a 41-26 vote.

Jerry Brown and Chief Justice Tani Gorre Cantil-Sakauye have agreed to work with Hertzberg and Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Oakland, on bail reform legislation over the fall to ensure the final plan is pragmatic, workable and enduring.
