EXAMINER.COM: Senator calls for Metro plan to include the state’s largest Cal State campus

June 17, 2016

What if you had $120 billion for a transportation plan but didn’t include the largest college campus in your area?

That’s what state senator Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, is concerned about in the San Fernando Valley. He issued a call for the Los Angeles County Metro Board to consider amending its plan for a proposed sales tax measure that’s scheduled to be placed on the November ballot. The board is going to make a final decision on June 23, but it’s not too late.

The plan forgot to include anything involving Cal State Northridge (CSUN)—which has nearly 50,000 students and generates more than 200,000 car trips a week.

“The Metro expenditure plan is the product of a lot of hard work and thoughtfulness, but it has one glaring omission: CSUN,” Hertzberg said. “As the state’s largest Cal State campus with nearly 50,000 students, workers and faculty, CSUN draws commuters from throughout Los Angeles County, and it desperately needs public transportation options.”
