SACRAMENTO – Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg of Van Nuys released the following statement today after two key Senate policy committees approved a proposed ballot measure that would ensure Californians have access to abortion and related safe reproductive health care.

Approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Elections and Constitutional Amendments Committee, SCA 10, Reproductive Freedom, by Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins and co-authored by Hertzberg, next faces a budget review.

“Today’s actions were needed steps to ensure California families know they will continue to have the right to decide what is best for their health and future,” Hertzberg said. “For 50 years, this was settled law. Unfortunately, that may soon change. With adoption of this Constitutional Amendment, California women will continue to have the right to safe and legal medical care.”
