Hertzberg Comments on 2019 State of the State Address
Today, Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) released the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State Address:
“Governor Newsom has made it clear he’s ready to hit the ground running. I absolutely agree that our problems don’t start and end with PG&E, so we must put our heads together on a comprehensive framework for California’s energy future. And when it comes to homelessness, the state must provide leadership and vision; our cities and counties cannot do it alone.
I’d also like to commend Governor Newsom on appointing a number of fantastic leaders to address the problems that our state faces: my former Assembly colleague, Mayor Darrell Steinberg, will head up a commission on homelessness and supportive housing; and former First Lady Maria Shriver will no doubt bring her wealth of insight and skill to the Alzheimer’s Prevention Taskforce.
The most intriguing proposal I heard today was the idea of just compensation for consumers when online companies use their data. This is the next frontier of the online data and privacy conversation, and I’m looking forward to hearing what a plan could entail.”
