Sen. Bob Hertzberg's vision on taxes, energy cited by Carla Marinucci's daily briefing on politics and government in the Golden State

October 30, 2015

INNOVATION INSIDER: Two of State Senator Robert Hertzberg’s proposals to reform state taxation and energy policies were named finalists Thursday in a competition sponsored by a national group seeking innovative ideas for government.

A group called NewDEAL -- which stands for Developing Exceptional American Leaders -- whose honorary co-chairs are Delaware Governor Jack Markell and Virginia Senator Mark Warner -- Thursday announced the finalists of the group’s “2015 New Ideas Challenge.”

Hertzberg, from Los Angeles, won kudos on two counts, the group said. They cited his “Upward Mobility Act” designed “to explore problems with the current tax structure and discuss reform alternatives,’’ including looking at changes to corporate taxes and simplification of the personal tax laws.

Hertzberg also is a finalist for a new plan “to help improve how Western states trade and integrate renewable energy resources,” like solar, wind, geothermal and others through development of “a new regional electricity market and grid operator.”
