Hertzberg Responds to Governor’s Revised Budget

Senator from Van Nuys encouraged by Governor’s commitment to tax reform, bail reform, and other key policy priorities

May 11, 2018

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, released the following statement today in response to the release of the May Revision to the Governor’s 2018-19 Budget:

“As he reiterates each year, the Governor is concerned about the volatility of our tax system. The Governor is right that we can’t fix the tax system overnight – which is why I’ve been working on tax reform for over seven years with economists and academics of the highest caliber. He might not think it will help, but I invite the Governor to come upstairs and knock on every Senate office door with me to whip votes for my proposal, SB 993. It isn’t a complete solution, but as the Governor said himself, we need a framework. SB 993 is that framework: a first step to move us toward a less volatile revenue stream that will provide more stability in the down years that we all know are coming.”

Hertzberg added, “I also thank the Governor and Director Cohen for reiterating their support for landing bail reform this year. Our bail system is unsafe and unfair. Let’s get SB 10 done now!”
